Family Fun Events

All enrolled families are invited to monthly Family Fun Event gatherings that are designed for families to play, have fun, enjoy a meal and learn together. Scheduled at the FNC or at community venues, families celebrate the joy of community and the relationships that they are forming.

Parenting Classes and Groups

FNC offers a variety of parenting education and engagement opportunities for parents who want to learn and are looking for support. Most of our parenting opportunities are open to any client or community member who is interested free of charge, however some are open only to FNC clients. Most of our classes are six weeks long, but we also have some ongoing classes and groups like the Parent Baby Group, where parents of new babies (0-12 months) come together each week to learn about their babies development and share their stories with other parents. In September of 2017 we started offering a weekly GED Prep Class for parents who want help getting their GEDs. FNC also offers classes on child development and how to discipline young children effectively and appropriately with our two-part series of Whole Brain Child and No Drama Discipline. Our Farm and Food Program offers several groups for parents living in residential treatment programs each week with the Dad’s Farm Group, the Family Food Group, and the Family Farm Program.

Weekly Parent-Baby Group

FNC’s Parent-Baby Group offers a safe and supportive atmosphere for parents and their babes to build a deeper connection together, alongside other parents. Our group are small and relaxed, and ongoing from birth to age one. Our group offers you and your baby the chance to discover, explore, and grow together. Parents learn how our earliest relationships with caregivers can promote healthy attachment and brain development, build social and emotional skills, and support literacy starting from birth. In groups, parents and children share positive experiences and build memories to help balance out stressors that many families face each day. We incorporate child development and psycho-information around attachment utilizing attachment theory and the Circle of Security. We practice our affect regulation skills, support parents and babies in identifying feelings in themselves and others, and integrate meditation practices into our groups. We also focus on baby PRIDE skills from Parent Child Interaction Therapy as well as Angels in the Nursery from Child-Parent Psychotherapy by asking parents to reflect on their own positive experiences as a small child. In addition, we’ll enjoy dance, play music, tell stories, learn about baby massage, practice baby yoga, learn to sign with your baby, explore baby Zen, and create beautiful and fun arts and crafts projects!
